Next Convention

Postby bunny-bear » Mon Mar 22, 2010 10:03 am

Hi I was wondering if it would be possible to have a second convention in June or July. I ask only because many others at the convention were talking and decided that during the summer vacation would be a great time to have another convention. Not only is school out but it is a great way to get out of the heat. I personally believe it would benefit everyone in the long run.
On a separate matter if you should have any problems with finding security guards or help of any sort just call the palmer Job corps for help. Just ask for me :) Logan Grothe.

I was actually thinking the same thing. It doesn't have to be nearly as large or two days but waiting a whole year for an anime convention is killer. I think with volunteers and organizing things soon it could happen. I know I would help for sure if there was. I have nothing else to do in the summer for anime whatsoever so this could be really fun!

I'm not sure if that would be wise for Senshicon per-say, because of all the stuff that went into the con. But it might be worth it to think about starting a sister convention. Auroracon was great filler until they disbanded, especially for people who can't travel to other conventions.

Well that's what I was thinking was a whole different con. Not another Senshi-con (I know it takes a ton of work) Just something to pass over through the year until the next senshicon. I know a lot of people like me can't travel out of state for one so to have another would be great. It doesn't have to be a full-blown con though. Just kinda like cosplay stuff, some games, a few vendors and artists just something fun to do with anime I guess. but then again, just an idea.

Does anyone know of someone to host a different anime convention? Would it also take plase at UAA or is there a better place? :eh:

There are many places that hold conventions. The Egan center is one, so is the Danaina, as well as the Sullivan. Hotels also usually have space. Running an anime convention takes a lot of time and money, and running more than 1 a year would be really hard to do. In order to hold one at UAA, we had to do a lot of work with the UAAAC. If you can get people together that want to hold a convention, all it takes to run a small one is dedication and fundraising. Be warned though, if you dont have enough of either, it is extremely hard to get one running.

What about a Summer Anime fest? Outdoors in a park possibly, with maybe an area for vendors and booths, an area to relax and eat and chat, an area with a projector for anime or music for dancing? Some anime and manga-inspired events or Japanese traditions, like breaking watermelon open and stuff?
We could do those minor sports things that everyone loves too, like 3 legged races and barrel races and all sorts. More of a laid back get together with a loose schedule anime-themed rofl

**edit, also, holding outdoors ALMOST eliminates the need to rent space. It does cost a bit to rent the parks out, but that can be made back easily by a small vendor fee.

We can have our own Summer Festival :3

I like the idea of having it outdoors but what would we do for shows/video games on a type of screen also things might have to be wayed down like art and other things cuz there might be some wind but then again having outside well have some bonuses like having lots of room for skits and other things that invole lots of people but like people say it still takes lots of time and help to still do somthing. Good luck with your idea :D

The idea of having another convention out doors is the best idea so far. I would hate to have weather problems. Would the car tents at Costco work for cover from the heat/rain/winds what ever may be the case? Could we have restraints make *donations* to help with food and drink in exchange for advertising? Anyone work or own a restraint?

If you want to have an anime convention go for it, just be warned how much effort is required to do all of it.

Kincaid park holds a festival every summer as well. Not as good as a con, but I totally support having a summer festival. It sounds like so much fun!

I think a festival will have the get-togetherness of a con, while being lax and outdoors :D You can say it's affiliated with S-con without being a con itself.

IF there were to be anime and shows, that could easily be done indoors (if you want to do Kincaid), where there's the chalet and several rooms from which to pick, although renting the chalet has its own requirements. I guess you could have the booths indoors then too, and party hard outdoors. Barbeque and all sorts.
Though personally I think, since it'd be a festival, it should all be outside. So probably no anime. Just active fun :D

If peeps do this though, I demand a goldfish booth.

If you are talking about getting anime shown indoors to the public we are working on it. The thing is location is the hardest part right now.

A summer anime festival would actually be pretty amazing. And you could always put up some tents or overhangs to keep the artist ally and the projectors and stuff in good shape. It could be kinda like how the saturday market does their vendors who need covering. And we could have local bands and stuff going. That would be so cool =) Senshi-con definently would have a hard time hosting the festival alone, but you could always make it a joint project between senshi-con and the local anime clubs or something, I know most of the high schools all have anime clubs, as well as the universities. Could make it a collaboration 8)

I've been looking into this A LOT. I think that summer this year is too soon, but perhaps next year!

In my oppinion. I would like to see progress with the actual convention before discussing any other side events like a summer festival.

I wouldn't want it to be a part of senshicon. As it is this year I am not very impressed with the lack of progress with the con. I'd rather put it on as a cosplay group then anything else, or hold it under my own business liscense for my up and coming online store.
I don't like Senshicon very much, I want the festival to not be involved with it if I were to do it.
